Dr. Andrew Holzman and Washington Nationals Ace Pitcher John Lannan
I was referred to Dr Holzman by the Washington Nationals' team eye doctor, Dr. Smithson. I definitely wanted the best surgeon who would be very careful and make sure everything was perfect. Dr Holzman at TLC came very highly recommended. I felt totally comfortable through the entire process as Dr Holzman's confidence and skill let me easily relax. It was incredibly easy. My eyesight is 20/15 now and I can't believe how much better i can see than before surgery. This was a GREAT decision for me and i am really looking forward to the up-coming baseball season with my new eyesight.

Dr. Andrew Holzman with Major League Soccer Star Alecko Eskandarian of LA Galaxy
Dr. Holzman, I just want to thank you and your staff for taking great care of me when I recently had LASIK surgery at your TLC office. As a pro soccer player, my vision is extremely important and directly affects my performance on the field. Just like anyone else, I had questions about LASIK surgery and made sure I did my research before choosing to go forward with it. After wearing contact lenses and glasses for most of my life, I decided LASIK was the best option and have to admit the results have been fantastic. I am able to see clearer than ever before and haven't had to worry about the frustrations of managing my contact lenses. This has helped improve my quality of life in that I no longer have had to worry about my eyesight, both on and off the field. Thank you TLC!

Laser Vision Correction Procedures
There are a variety of different laser vision correction procedures (as well as procedures that do not utilize laser technology) which can be used to treat a patient. Upon your initial consultation with Dr. Holzman, he will determine which method would be best for you as well as explain what to expect should you opt to undergo treatment.
- LASIK - Perhaps the most popular form of laser vision correction, LASIK surgery allows quick recovery and typically results in few, if any, complications. Known as laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis, LASIK is a refractive surgery that involves the reshaping of the cornea (making it flatter in nearsighted individuals, steeper in farsighted individuals and more spherical in individuals with astigmatism) with an excimer laser.
- PRK - Also known as Photo-Refractive Keratectomy, PRK is an ideal procedure for patients with eye conditions that prevent them from undergoing LASIK surgery. The PRK laser vision correction procedure, like LASIK, involves reshaping the cornea with a laser to correct or improve the patient's vision, but unlike LASIK, also involves the complete removal of the epithelium, or outer layer of the cornea, during surgery so that the laser can be applied directly to the cornea rather than the inner tissue.
- IntraLase® - The first step of the LASIK procedure - the creation of a corneal flap along the outermost layer of the eye - has until recently involved the use of a specially designed surgical blade called a microkeratome. The IntraLase® laser is a new technology that is designed to replace the microkeratome and provide doctors with a level of safety and accuracy not possible before. The IntraLase® laser cuts a small circular pattern along the outer cornea with its 3-micron-diamater laser beam, leaving one end uncut so that a hinge can be created for the flap. Though the microkeratome is safe and reliable, the IntraLase® offers another level of accuracy.
Conductive Keratoplasty Procedure
The NearVision SM CK® Conductive Keratoplasty procedure utilizes focused radio waves to correct vision, and is intended for patients over the age of 40 with good distance vision. The procedure differs from laser vision correction surgeries such as LASIK and PRK in that it is does not require the removal of any tissue, and it is used primarily to reduce dependence on reading glasses. Because of the minimally invasive nature of conductive keratoplasty, patients typically recover very quickly and suffer very few if any side effects.
Laser Vision Correction Technology
Dr. Holzman and the staff at TLC Laser Eye Centers utilize the latest laser vision correction technologies to meet the needs of patients throughout Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
- iLASIK - Utilizing a 3D mapping technique to measure the aberrations of your eyes, the iLASIK technology is incredibly accurate and is the first laser vision correction tool in the world that is 100 percent custom-fit for each patient. This diagnostic and measurement tool allows Dr. Holzman to precisely reshape the patient's corneas for optimal vision correction.
- VISX™ CustomVue™ Waveprint™ - This system maps a patient's eyes, including optical paths, by measuring light waves as they travel through the cornea. Used in conjunction with iLASIK procedures, the VISX™ CustomVue™ Waveprint™ system can create a highly accurate, highly individualized treatment plan to help ensure that vision correction is optimal.
- Allegretto Wave™ - Representing the newest generation of excimer lasers, the Allegretto Wave™ system uses a wavefront-optimized technology with active eye tracking to correct refractive errors that can cause myopia and hyperopia. This system was the first to receive concurrent FDA approval for myopia and hyperopia treatment, and provides the fastest and most accurate vision correction available.
- Wavefront - The Wavefront diagnostic system uses a low energy laser to map the eye of aberrations or imperfections that can cause vision impairment. Originally designed for the creation of optimized telescope lenses, the Wavefront technology has the ability to perform diagnostics that are up to 25 times more precise than a traditional eye exam.
