Eye Facts, Who knew?

Your eyes are amazing!  It is through your eyes work, that you are given the ability to see. It is always fun to learn new facts about the eyes and explore their respective functions. Here are some interesting eye facts that you may not know...

Everyone is colorblind at birth.

Babies cry but they do not produce tears until they are one to three months old.

Your eye muscles are the most active muscles in the body.

Your eye can process 36,000 bits of information every hour - in a normal lifespan you will see almost 24 million images of the world around you.

Each of your individual eyelashes have a life span of approximately five months.

It is actually physically impossible to sneeze with your eyes open.

The last two facts make me smile because we see a lot of patients for LASIK and PRK.  When we are prepping the patient in the laser suite we do everything that we can to help you relax.  We play music, you have a Xanax to help you relax prior to your procedure and there is even a blanket and a teddy bear!  Dr. Holzman explains what is going on through each step of your refractive procedure.  I would say patients are funny about two things.  The first thing is what happens if I sneeze during the procedure...the answer is you won’t because your eyes will be open.  The second thing is that the ladies are almost always concerned about losing any eyelashes.  Dr. Holzman is very good at what he does...he does everything he can to keep your lashes intact!
