Is having LASIK or PRK really worth it? By Kristina Oneill on July 01, 2014

Is having LASIK or PRK really worth it?

The truth is that there really is no concrete answer to this question about LASIK or PRK since this procedure is an elective procedure and it is based on your individual visual needs and history.  Not everyone is a good candidate for refractive surgery procedures such as PRK or LASIK but from my experience from being in the LASIK and PRK field for 15 years...the answer is yes according to our patients.

If you try to work through the information on the Internet you will find many different opinions. Most people who have had a successful refractive surgery procedure have a positive experience and are eager to share, but there are those patients who have had some type of complication and use social media as a platform to try to persuade everyone not to do it.

While it is great that social media is a platform for patient experiences both good and bad, when researching LASIK or PRK you also have to look at the numbers and facts.  LASIK and PRK change the lives of people all over the world to rid themselves of dependance on glasses and contact lenses. In the hands of an experienced surgeon and team the surgery is successful and the complication rate is low – between 0.2 and 1 percent.

LASIK and PRK surgery patient’s say that their lives are changed for the better in our practice. They say it is hard to describe in words how their life quality improved.   You have to make an educated decision so do your research.  Make sure you find out what you can expect.  Dr. Holzman offers complimentary consultations in his Charlottesville and Tyson’s Corner Virginia, Rockville, Maryland and DC.  Come in and see if LASIK is worth it for you.
