Conductive Keratoplasty Benefits

Conductive keratoplasty eye surgery, or CK, helps patients suffering from farsightedness reduce or eliminate their need for reading glasses with virtually instant results. Dr. Andrew Holzman was the first ophthalmologist in the Washington, D.C. area to perform the procedure. His many years of experience in performing refractive surgery, along with his use of advanced technology, helps patients experience outstanding conductive keratoplasty benefits, including a safe and non-invasive procedure, fast results, and vastly improved close focus. During a consultation, Dr. Holzman can determine if CK is right for you.

CK eye surgery, Conductive Keratoplasty

CK eye surgery uses a non-invasive radiofrequency tool to tighten corneal tissue and improve close focus.

Safe and Non-Invasive Treatment

The CK procedure does not require the removal or incision of tissues, so there is far less risk of infection and other complications when compared to other procedures. Instead of using scalpels or lasers, the procedure employs radiofrequency energy that causes the collagen fibers of the cornea to contract, resulting in a flatter curvature and improved close focus.

Most patients are able to return to work within a day or two of the procedure. Although you may feel some minor discomfort during the first couple of days, this usually subsides on its own.

Quick Recovery

Not only is the CK procedure relatively quick, but it also involves minimal downtime. Most patients are able to return to work within a day or two of the procedure. Although you may feel some minor discomfort during the first couple of days, this usually subsides on its own. Most restrictions following the procedure (such as avoiding swimming and rubbing your eyes) are minor and are lifted within two weeks of surgery.

Greater Independence

Perhaps the greatest benefit of the CK procedure is the reduced need for reading glasses. Some patients may be able to stop using their reading glasses altogether, and others may need their glasses only for exceptionally small print or in poorly lit areas. This benefit also allows patients to save valuable time often otherwise spent searching for lost reading glasses or having to make appointments to replace prescription eyewear. Most patients find that life becomes far more convenient when they can rely on their own eyes to complete simple day-to-day tasks.

How Soon Are These Benefits Realized?

After undergoing the CK procedure, you can notice immediate improvements in your vision. Although it may take several weeks to a few months for the changes to your vision to become fully apparent, the immediate results are significant. Since the natural aging process will continue to affect the eyes even after CK has been performed, the results can be long-lasting, but not permanent. When you begin to experience a decline in close focus or experience any other changes in vision, Dr. Holzman can help you determine the best strategy for restoring focus.
