What is the recovery like for LASIK patients?   When you have LASIK with Dr. Holzman, he will give you instructions to go home and take a two to three hour nap.  Patient  When you wake up from your nap post procedure you should spend the rest of the day relaxing. You may experience very mild discomfort for 12 to 24 hours after the procedure, but this is typically alleviated with an over-the-counter pain reliever like Aleve, Tylenol or Ibuprofen.  You could also experience sensitivity to light and watering of the eyes for a few days following your LASIK surgery.  Most people are able to resume normal activities as soon as the day after the procedure; however, it is important that you do not use eye makeup or creams for one week and avoid rubbing your eyes for three or four weeks.  We also tell patients no swimming or hot tubs for two weeks following the procedure.  We do instruct patients to be aware of dry environments.  We have you turn off all ceiling fans and use preservative free artificial tears post LASIK.  This helps aid in your healing and comfort.  You are reminded to blink often at your computer and that you cannot overuse your artificial tears.

We encourage patients to USE their eyes post procedure.  Many patients think that they cannot watch TV on the day of their procedure.  You absolutely can, just do so after your nap!  LASIK is a life changing procedure.  Your vision correction is incredibly important to Dr. Holzman and his entire staff.  We want you to know what the healing process is like so that you can schedule your LASIK procedure and be fully informed of the post procedure instructions and arrange for them accordingly.  You would not want to plan a vacation where swimming is a must within a week post LASIK.  If you have other concerns regarding your post LASIK procedure care please do not hesitate to call us at any of the following locations: TLC Charlottesville and TLC Tyson’s Corner Virginia, TLC District of Columbia, and TLC Rockville Maryland Locations.
