Proper aftercare is a key part of a successful LASIK experience. Following Dr. Holzman’s instructions and protecting your eyes in the days and weeks after surgery can help ensure the best possible results.

Here’s a clear, step-by-step checklist to guide your LASIK recovery and promote fast, healthy healing.

Immediately After Surgery

These first hours are critical to reducing inflammation and setting the foundation for fast healing. Protecting your eyes from strain, light, and contaminants helps avoid complications.

  • Rest your eyes as much as possible the first day

  • Keep the protective eye shields on while sleeping

  • Use your prescribed antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops as directed

  • Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes

  • Have someone drive you home after the procedure

First 24–48 Hours

  • Expect blurry vision, light sensitivity, and tearing (this is normal)

  • Wear sunglasses outdoors to protect from UV light

  • Avoid screens if your eyes feel strained

  • Continue using your eye drops as scheduled

  • Refrain from makeup, lotions, or creams near the eyes

Week 1

  • Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, and dusty environments

  • Do not wear eye makeup

  • Resume activities and work as advised

  • Attend your follow-up appointment with Dr. Holzman

  • Use preservative-free artificial tears regularly
  • You may gradually return to exercise, but avoid contact sports
  • Long Distance travel may be resumed as advised by Dr. Holzman

Week 2 to Week 4

  • Be cautious with windy or dirty environments

  • Night vision may still be adjusting (halos or glare are common)

  • Continue all prescribed drops and artificial tears

Long-Term Tips

Most patients achieve their best vision between 1–3 months after LASIK, depending on their healing rate and prescription. You can typically return to contact sports after one month—once cleared by your surgeon.

  • Attend all follow-up appointments to monitor healing

  • Wear sunglasses with UV protection outdoors

  • Avoid rubbing your eyes, especially while sleeping

  • Keep using artificial tears as needed for dryness

  • Notify us if you experience pain, decreased vision, or anything unusual
