Dr. Andrew Holzman and Washington Nationals ace pitcher John Lannan

I was referred to Dr Holzman by the Washington Nationals' team eye doctor, Dr. Smithson. I definitely wanted the best surgeon who would be very careful and make sure everything was perfect. Dr Holzman at TLC came very highly recommended. I felt totally comfortable through the entire process as Dr Holzman's confidence and skill let me easily relax. It was incredibly easy. My eyesight is 20/15 now and I can't believe how much better i can see than before surgery. This was a GREAT decision for me and i am really looking forward to the up-coming baseball season with my new eyesight.

Dr. Holzman, I just want to thank you and your staff for taking great care of me when I recently had LASIK surgery at your TLC office. As a pro soccer player, my vision is extremely important and directly affects my performance on the field. Just like anyone else, I had questions about LASIK surgery and made sure I did my research before choosing to go forward with it. After wearing contact lenses and glasses for most of my life, I decided LASIK was the best option and have to admit the results have been fantastic. I am able to see clearer than ever before and haven't had to worry about the frustrations of managing my contact lenses. This has helped improve my quality of life in that I no longer have had to worry about my eyesight, both on and off the field. Thank you TLC!

Wavefront Diagnostic Technology

Wavefront LASIK in Virginia and Washington DCWavefront refractive technology provides a WavePrint™ Map - a unique fingerprint of the patient's vision that displays the refractive errors and aberrations of the eye. The Wavefront technology was originally pioneered for astronomy and physics in order to aid in reducing aberrations, or imperfections, in the optical systems of telescopes and laser devices. Today, this unique technology can be used to obtain a diagnostic measurement that is up to 25 times more precise than standard vision tests, resulting in customized treatment and a higher quality of vision.

Benefits of Wavefront Guided LASIK Technology

For many patients there are numerous reasons for poor vision. In a single eye, there may be several different types of visual imperfections and these imperfections are called aberrations. Aberrations are classified as lower-order aberrations and higher-order aberrations. In the past, doctors were only able to correct the lower order aberrations, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Yet, these are not the only causes of problem vision. Higher order aberrations impact your vision as well, and cannot be corrected with glasses or contacts or even traditional LASIK surgery. Today, new Wavefront Mapping technology is available that examines the entire optical system, allowing for higher order aberrations to be detected, measured and mapped. The ability to diagnose the higher order aberrations now leads to the ability to correct them resulting in Wavefront-guided customized LASIK. It is also likely that post-operative patients with residual refractive errors may benefit from a wavefront-guided enhancement in the future.

Custom Vision Correction Treatment

With the addition of the latest in Wavefront mapping technologies, Dr. Holzman can now offer his patients Wavefront-guided customized LASIK. This new technology provides Dr. Holzman with a new level of diagnostic information previously unavailable by utilizing a low-energy laser to capture and display the smallest imperfections of your entire optical system. The laser provides a complete analysis of the focusing systems of your eyes and illuminates problem areas in your eye previously undetected by past examinations. The higher order aberrations are measured and the measurements are converted into a Wavefront Map. This map is as unique to you as your fingerprints.

After a thorough analysis of the information provided by the Wavefront map, Dr. Holzman can then determine whether Wavefront-guided customized LASIK is necessary for you.

The resulting Wavefront map and the information it contains is transferred directly into the corresponding excimer laser. The Wavefront map becomes a guide for treatment and Wavefront-guided customized LASIK can be performed. The Wavefront technology is a tremendous breakthrough in laser vision correction, providing enhanced visual quality and opening the door for many more people who desire a better life without glasses or contacts. So if you're considering Wavefront LASIK in Virginia, Maryland, or Washington, DC look no further then the friendly and helpful staff working with Dr. Holzman at TLC Tysons Corner.
