Laser Vision Correction Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C.
Description
Dr. Andrew Holzman gives an overview of laser vision correction, explaining what the treatment provides at his Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. facilities. Depending on what vision issues the patient has, like nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, Dr. Holzman will take the appropriate approach to correct it.
Laser vision correction is the actual act of resculpting the cornea, which is the window of the eye, to a more normal shape using laser technology. If a nearsighted patient requires laser vision correction, or requests it, what we do is flatten the cornea with the laser, because the cornea in that particular patient is too steep. We can do laser vision correction also for farsighted patients. Farsighted patients have corneas that are too flat, so the laser will actually steepen the cornea in that individual. We can also treat astigmatism with lasers, and astigmatism is a curve in the cornea. What we will do is use the lasers to create a more normal, rounder cornea, so that the patient can then see more accurately at distance.
